In a world first, Channel Nine Perth and WIN Television WA today announced an alliance between it’s charitable arm – APPEALATHON – and Variety WA.

The alliance between these two powerful brands is not only a demonstration of Channel Nine Perth and WIN Television WA’s commitment to the on-going support of charitable fund-raising, but will also provide Variety WA with a position of strength in the market - by way of access to television airtime to drive and promote fund-raising initiatives.

Channel Nine Perth and WIN Television WA will provide airtime, commercial production support (through it’s local production unit) and the support of locally produced News and A Current Affairs programs – NINE NEWS, WIN NEWS and PERTH’S A CURRENT AFFAIR. Station personalities, Dixie Marshall, Greg Pearce, Michael Thomson, Angela Tsun, Louise Momber and Matt Tinney will also continue to make major contributions.

In making the announcement, General Manager of Channel Nine Perth and WIN Television WA, Ian McRae said, “I am excited to be strengthening our ties with Variety and I believe that the “can do” spirit which exists in WA will ensure that we can take charitable fund-raising activities to a new level. The combination of state-wide coverage and support that we can provide, together with Variety WA’s expertise in fundraising is a fantastic fit. All of Appealathon’s existing beneficiaries have been involved in this process and all are excited at what this alliance can provide. I am very much looking forward to working with Michael Pailthorpe and his team at Variety WA to ensure that the people of Western Australia continue to benefit from our efforts.”

Michael Pailthorpe, Executive Director of Variety WA said “In recent years, Variety has enjoyed fantastic support from Channel Nine’s Appealathon and this new partnership with Channel Nine Perth and WIN Television WA will enable Variety to raise significantly more, much-needed funds to assist the sick, disadvantaged and special needs children of WA. Together with the outstanding support of Ian McRae, Channel Nine Perth and WIN Television WA personalities and station staff, we look forward to delivering more practical assistance to WA’s special kids, their families and communities than ever before. ”

Variety International President, Grahame Mapp, joined guests in Perth to officially launch the world first partnership with an exclusive morning tea at Channel Nine Perth/ WIN Television WA studios.

“This partnership has set a new benchmark for Variety worldwide, providing an innovative fundraising platform to reach the community 12 months a year. On behalf of Variety International, I commend Channel Nine Perth, WIN Television WA and Variety WA for their vision in bringing two of Western Australia’s most loved and respected charities together to make double the difference to WA kids in need,” Grahame said.

Since 1975, Appealathon has raised over $60m for it’s beneficiaries.
Variety WA has raised and granted over $20m to the special kids of WA since 1980.
